They would invert an ice cream cone and decorate it like a clown, I remember seeing these in the Northeast and Midwest when I was on travel there. They seemed to start disappearing 20 years ago or so.

Their hot fudge sundae is the best! Food Lion carries their ice cream.

Oh I hope so. I briefly worked in one so many years ago - that was not fun - but going there was.

I worked there too. Still think they have the best ice cream. Used to love making the clown sundae!

It's entirely possible as they're a franchise. And according to their website, they're looking for potential franchisee's in North Carolina. When you consider the significant number of people who relocated to the Triangle from the Northeast, where Friendly's still remains popular, it seems like a logical sort of thing.

OMG< We lived in NY for 17 years and the ONE thing we miss about NY is Friendly's. I've never taken my kids to Durham for anything but we would go for Friendly's.

We've started stopping at a Friendly's just south of Richmond. SOOOOOO Happy to find Friendly's ice cream at Food Lion recently!

Is that a Friendly's going in on 15/501 @ Mt. Moriah near the new PDQ and Chipoltes up on the hill? The construction sign looks like a Friendly's, but it's a little small for me to read while driving. If not, it's another store with a red cursive sign that starts with an F...
