When I lived in Florida, I'd say for the past decade that N.C. was the place to which most were choosing to go if moving out-of-state. And we joined that group!
I went to a movie once when I was still new here, and before the movie was talking to a lady and it turned out she was from the same area (Fort Lauderdale suburbs) from which I came, but she had left Florida about 7 years earlier than I had. Small world.
