My wife and I are celebrating 24 years of marriage this weekend. I've thought about:
18 Seaboard, Angus Barn, Sullivan's, The Farm House.

We like beef, pork, chicken, Italian, .
We (she) can't do seafood.

What are your thoughts?
Thanks,
Streamer1212

Since moving here in 2007, the majority always start with recommending Angus Barn. For the first seven years I resisted going because a) I'm cheap and b) I really hate overpaying for meals (see my first point about being cheap).

This past June I took my family there for the first time to celebrate a major event and despite being heavily prejudiced going in, had one of the very best dining experiences ever. While all six of us (ranging from Grandma to my Middle-schooler) all thought our food was great, I'm certain I've never had better service. Considering that I've traveled quite literally around the world on business and have dined at some seriously impressive places, Angus Barn is clearly on my short list of expensive restaurants that I consider "worth it". And speaking of expensive, it wasn't nearly as bad as I'd anticipated; I was prepared for near $100 per person numbers and it was nearly half that amount.

My vote is 18 Seaboard - and you'll be pleasantly surprised at how many non-seafood items are on the menu. In fact, we think that the seafood entree's are not as good as the meat entree's. The service is impeccable, and let them know it's your anniversary.

BTW, if your wife likes duck breast, no place better to order it. Largest duck breast I've EVER seen, and the most delicious one I've ever eaten.

I'd agree. If you are willing to drive a bit, Washington Duke Inn in Durham has excellent food and service

I must be one of the few that did not like the Angus Barn, at least not for an Anniversary dinner. I went there with my wife on such an occasion based on many recommendations, and it was just completely different than what I was expecting. For me, I want a nice quiet intimate setting. Angus Barn provides a more...Family Style setting with expensive, albeit good food. There were also a lot of noisy children. At another table nearby, there was an elderly couple with a balloon attached to their table. I am assuming they were celebrating their anniversary as well, but they looked very unhappy.

Don't get me wrong, I think Angus Barn has it's place, but an Anniversary dinner certainly is not one of them.
