It's nice that there are lower cost options out there, but the quality and amenities of Planet Fitness isn't anywhere close to being in the same league. Depends on what you want out of a fitness center.

So, yes, 77-ish a month sounds horrible.
Two different concepts. It's all about how much you want to pay and what your looking for in a gym. You want to just work out, tan, and get massages then $20 black card PF is for you. If you want a spa like experience with lots of classes and amenities such as a pool then that place looks awesome. But it will cost you $$$. It's a status thing for some people.

Place is great but get a free pass to try for a week and use it for a week. You want to see if you really use all the bells and whistles. I agree some join for the status. For the one in cary, the weight area isnt much better than other gyms. Just remember that everyone has a hard time cancelling a membership to any gym. Read the fine print and only care about what is in writing.
It's not just a "status" thing. Status is when you care what other people think about what you spend on. I've never met anyone who announces what gym they go to.
Some folks want better amenities because they want to be able to swim indoor and outdoor on or off teams, play racquetball, join basketball leagues or whatever. Yes to some extent whenever you go upscale anything, you have a higher chance of surrounding yourself with smarter more educated people instead of rubbing elbows with riffraff in the locker room since they probably can't afford it, but that's a side benefit and not the reason for choosing a health club.

Tanning, at a health facility? Do they have a smoking lounge too?
Fitness Connection also has great gyms in the area for either the 9.99 (singular clubs) or 19.99 (all clubs) And offers pools, racquetball and most of the gym musts.
Also there is that new Retro Fitness gym about town. But I haven't heard any reviews yet. And I don't care for the red and yellow color scheme (petty I know)
