Sister showed me her exterior transponder. Besides ugly isn't it easy to damage? How about theft? In SoCal all transponders are hard-side on window.

They have the inside window ones also. Usually the exterior ones are only needed for certain cars with windshield coatings and they put them on with security screws.

These are the only vehicles that require an external transponder.

Yup we had a car that needed one. One day a guy drove our car out of the car wash and banged the car in front of it and broke the case on the transponder, however it still worked. We had front tags in NY so it was not that noticeable.

You'd have to be pretty dedicated to the cause to get it off with the screws they provide.

Sister didn't mention security screws (answer to security question) but she had to use other screws. Unfortunately her car was on the list of external units.
