I bought 2 lbs of them at the Harris Teeter at McCullers Crossroads on Sunday and roasted them. That's all they had out on display. I plan to buy more this Sunday and do the same. We've been doing this for years. Started the habit while living in Dallas.

Ooooh snap. I had no idea I could find them here! We just moved from NM a little over a month ago and have mourned the loss of this yearly tradition and resulting foods. Thanks!

Aha - I just saw them at Fresh Market in Durham and I wondered what it was all about. You may be able to get some, but this was a few days ago.

Pork with green chile.
Green chile chicken soup
Just roll 'em up with a little garlic piwder in a tortilla
on hamburgers
in turkey sandwiches
blended with cream cheese for a spread on crackers or bagels
with scrambled eggs
in meat loaf
sauces (often with a little cream) on chicken, fish, shrimp

I've tried stuffing them like rellenos, but can't get the hang of it, so they end up like a relleno cassarole.

i could go on. . .

I'm really glad this thread wasn't about a 'child roast' as I first skimmed.

I know nothing about Hatch chiles but happened to be in Fresh Market in Cary last night and picked up a flyer. It says they are taking online orders for roasted Hatch chiles through Sept. 5, for pickup in stores through Sept. 10, in case anyone can't get to that particular Harris Teeter. The FM event this past Saturday included food sampling. Anyone know if the Harris Teeter event will have that? I'd like to know what they taste like, before jumping on the bandwagon.
