Punch in your destination and Uber will quote you a price. A taxi is most like 3x that amount.
Is it really that big of a difference around here? I've never used it in this area but when I used Uber in other cities it was cheaper but not by that much. More like $15 instead of $20, not $15 instead of $45. Just less competition in this area, maybe?

Rates vary by city, Raleigh is lower than some other cities. I think because it is relatively new here, and they are working on building a customer base.

My last Uber from my house to RDU was about $24. Out of curiosity, I just checked the RDU Taxi rates ($5.45 for the first mile, $1.95 each add'l mile). That would mean that the 20 mile trip from my house in an RDU Taxi would be $42.50. So Uber is about a 44% savings for me. And it has the advantage of being able to track the driver in real time to see how close he is to picking me up (a feature I've found particularly helpful)

Pretty big difference in my book.

Out of curiosity, I decided to look at my last Uber outside of the Triangle ... I was in Orlando, staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge and traveling to Universal. According to my account history, I paid $16.85 (light traffic). I found an Orlando site that estimates taxi fare, and that same trip in a taxi, depending on traffic, ranges from $44.64 - $78.61. Even at the lowest end of the range, that's still about a 62% savings.

Yeah, definitely a big difference.

That's definitely a great savings. I'll be without a car for my first 2-3 weeks in the Triangle, so I'll definitely be relying on Uber in the meantime.

Sorry, can't help you with that question. Since we were staying at a Disney resort, we took advantage of the Magical Expres.

UPDATE...Hubby finally decided to take my advice (after talking with a co-worker that uses Uber frequently)!

He signed up, got a ride this morning at 6 AM to go to RDU. He said it was GREAT, driver was EARLY and that I was RIGHT (duh)!!!

Awesome. What was the cost?

Also, when you say the driver was early, what does that mean? Were you able to pre-arrange a time with Uber?
