My wife and I have lived in the Arlington VA area for 40 years. We want a walkable life with less traffic and more down to earth living--and people. Tennis clubs and fitness centers and cafes and coffee shops and artsie activities (I create digital art and want a venue to hawk my work) and music venues that are clean and that do not blow your ear drums into the next county (yes, I am old fashioned).

Can someone tell me about Wake Forest--say, Traditions and The Heritage and other communities that are recommended?

Thank you.

Someone else will need to respond about Wake Forest, but it just popped into my head that you sound very much like friends of mine who moved to Suwanee, Georgia and absolutely love it. You might as well - Wake Forest might be great too, but I wanted to mention Suwanee.

No. To be honest there's not much here. Lived in Wake Forest for 13 years. Strip malls, traffic and subdivisions. My wife and I go to Raleigh for restaurants, entertainment, events. Now that our children are grown we are looking to move to North Raleigh.

Standard Pacific is building a n'hood called The Homestead at Heritage that has a 1.5 story plan. Very nice w/master downstairs.

Traditions is building some villa homes by M I Homes with master downstairs.

There is a senior center in Wake Forest.

It all depends on what you are looking for. There are also new 55 Active Adult communities in the area.

Why have you decided on Wake Forest? I don't think it fits what you want at all. Maybe Carrboro would work? I see Durham as a possible option as well. Wake Forest is just anywhere America suburbia and honestly I don't find it that convenient in terms or retail options. I don't live in Wake Forest, but I am there often as my son plays hockey.

If you are interested in other town/state options.... I recently visited Greenville, SC and it's a lovely town and would also fit your requirements. You should look into it.

Sounds like Carrboro, Chapel Hill or Durham is more your style. Wake Forest is sort of the opposite of what you're looking for. A girl I'm seeing stays there, and it's really lame, man.

Agree. Coming from NoVA I think it's going to feel like the sticks to you.

I have many clients that live in Wake Forest. All ages. They love the small town FEEL with all they need being so close by.

I don't live in WF but I do drive there with clients and to eat at Shuckers!

I guess it all depends on what you are looking for. But a young couple may not be able to respond to an empty nester as they may not have researched all that is nearby.

As for those that recommend other areas because they don't KNOW what is available, you have to take that with a grain of salt.

Our area has become a draw for retired folks. There are many 55+ Active Adult communities being built. There are many villas and single story homes being built in FV, HS, Apex, WF, Durham, etc. So, to say that this area wouldn't be what a person is looking for, is just wrong.

Maybe the perception and the opinions are good to hear but unless you have first hand knowledge of what is available for senior citizens in a particular area, I'm not sure a newbie is getting the full answer.

And, of course, you have to see it for yourself.

Who said they were senior citizens?
