Just curious since I don't drive down Falls of Neuse Road from Wakefield/Wake Forest often but I recently looked at some peak hour traffic volumes for the intersection of Falls of Neuse Road & Raven Ridge Road and I noticed an unusually large number of right turns from southbound Falls of Neuse Road onto westbound Raven Ridge Road from 7:15 AM to 8:00 AM (counts were taken on a normal workday, Tuesday). This seems weird to me since Raven Ridge Road westbound from that intersection doesn't really go to anything - there's the nature park but other than that, it doesn't seem to be a commuting destination. Is there a popular route somewhere that people are taking to get to Durant, Six Forks or 540 because of the backups on southbound Falls of Neuse Road during the AM rush hour?

Hoping that someone who regularly makes the drive down that road around this time could shed some insight into this!

My neck of the woods but not positive. They could be making that left onto Raven Ridge, then left onto Durant, then right onto Capital to get to work

I think the OP is saying that folks are making the right onto Raven Ridge as they're heading south down Falls of Neuse.

My guess is that, at that time, they could be taking kids to Brassfield Elementary.

Raven Ridge to Koupela to Durant is a not-so-bad detour if you're heading west.

That does seem to be the only destination out that way...but I wonder why people are taking Raven Ridge instead of going down to Durant? I never found the traffic at Durant and Falls to be that bad when I lived up that way, and it seems a straighter shot to the school on Durant.

Interesting observation nonetheless though.

The traffic along Falls of Neuse from Raven Ridge to Durant has gotten much worse over the past two years. It is basically a conga line during peak morning rush hour. I avoid it completely now.

Dang, I didn't know that. I moved out of that area about 3.5 yrs ago which puts my knowledge out of date here. Do you think it's mostly people trying to get to 540?

I'm guessing it's being used as a cut through to avoid backups at the lights?

I checked the Brassfield Elementary web site and school doesn't start there until 9:15 AM so that can't possibly be the reason.

The cut through to avoid backups at the Durant/540 lights makes sense and Koupela could be used as a shortcut either to go west on Durant or south on Honeycutt (going to Brassfield Rd seems a little out of the way but if traffic is as bad as people say it is, it could be a possibility).
