Since there seems to be so many NJ transplants, I was wondering, who did you use for movers? Did anyone have to "store" with their moving company while their house was built or until they closed? What was your approximate cost, and how much did you move - ie. number of rooms of furniture?

Thanks for the info, we are just trying get as much info as we can to budget for this as I am sure it will be a big chunk of change!!

this probably wont help, but we moved from north jersey and originally were going to use ABF bacause they will drive and store if you need it. they gave us a reasonable price--about $800 ( 3b,liv,din,kitch) but thet only gave us 26' (was not enough) and we had to keep the truck and load it ourselves. since we were not able to keep the truck due to restrictions, we ended up with a uhaul and doing it with freinds...
but ABF gave us a good offer and may be able to give you more space if you ask.

I see so many on the board that moved or are moving from the northeast (Particularly NJ) I am so surprised I haven't heard more on this thread. Perhaps it got lost before the former Jerseyites had a chance to respond??

We moved from Mercer County, NJ 2 years ago to Clayton.

We put our belongings into POD storage and stored it in NJ for a few months. Then when we made it down to NC, we had the POD shipped to Raleigh and stored while we rented and house/neighborhood hunted.

Both in NJ and in NC we used movinglaborbrokers.com to load/unload....they were reasonable and professional. You get 2 guys for a few hours for about $280.

The POD cost about $1400 total...and then about $100/month to store. I've heard their prices have increased though haven't checked myself.

HTH...and good luck with your move!
Lauren
