I'm looking for either 4x6 or 6x6 cedar posts, 12 feet long, for an outdoor project. Is there anywhere local that sells them?

I'd prefer they not be rough sawn but if they are does anyone know how hard it is to smooth them up? Is it something I can do reasonably easily with my belt sander?

If they are rough-sawn, you will need a planer.
Your belt sander will not give you great results.

I think I would go to Capital Lumber in Raleigh. If they don't have a supplier, they may know someone.

Thank you both the recommendation. I ran down to Capital City Lumber at lunch and it's a very nice place with many options. The good news is they had exactly what I was looking for regarding the cedar. The bad news is the total lumber cost for the project using S4S Cedar would be about $850--way more than I want to spend for this little project. For the same quantity of lumber in pressure treated pine, it'll only cost about $300. Looks like I'll be using pressure treated pine with a nice cedar shade stain!!!
