Yet another national accolade for "hipster Durham."
Durham is the best place in the country for young people to live, according to a new ranking.
Growella, a money management website targeted at young adults, ranked the top 100 cities across the country using what they said are objective factors.
"We over-weighted cities that let you keep a large percentage of your paycheck; and, gave extra consideration to cities that make it easy to get around. We omitted subjective factors completely," Growella wrote. "You’ll find no mention of the trendiness of a town, or its hipness. Grades are assigned based on statistics and our algorithm only."
Please stop the listicle cancer. There is literally a cottage industry now of publishing lists for social media and ad revenue. Who has ever heard or cares about growella.
Millennial here. I rather live in Raleigh, Durham was cool like 10 years ago when Raleigh was a ghost-town but every month something cool and new opens up in Raleigh. Heck 2 years ago you had problem getting a late night bite in Raleigh but now there's so many options and next year when two---TWO food halls open--it has everything to fulfill my YUPPIE-millennial needs.

Different strokes for different folks. Good to hear Raleigh is losing it's blandness though manufacturing "cool" is kind of suspect, versus just being.
I gotta say...one of my coworkers just moved into one of the brand new loft apts in downtown Durham and I agree....that place is a mecca for 20-somethings and after hanging out with him after leaving a conference in DT Durham this evening at his place and Motorco.....I can't say I'm not really envious of him.
He actually reports to me thus makes less $$$....but this gf (a former employee of mine as well ) makes bank. Sugar momma needed for Nick to get that lifestyle!

I forgot how things just spontaneously just exist in Durham--instead of just being a product of being the closest city to RTP and their wealthy corporate workers. Though speaking about how cool you are constantly is the opposite of cool--actually it's pretty lame. I would never say Raleigh is cool--it's nice. Unlike the people in Durham--since that's pretty lame to always pat yourself in the back all the time.
Listen, there's nothing to be arrogant about Durham. The cost of living is the only reason anyone is moving here and that's rapidly not the case.
