My hubby has been there a year already he works in Wake Forest. I am moving to join him in 4 weeks so we are looking to rent. We are in our early 50’s and for the first time the kids are all grown up. I am A Brit, hubby from Rhode Island - quite a large Brit community in Cary, I didn’t really like wake forest . Hubby wants a house I would like a condo - we have been advised to look in North Hills and Cary . I like restaurants shops etc. are there any other area’s around Raleigh for single family homes that are nice - hubby would like no more than a 40 min commute.
Thank you
B
For the commute time, a lot would depend on where in Cary you choose to live and where in Wake Forest his work is. Cary is a big area, and if you live close to an access point on I540, the commute could even be closer to 35 minutes than 40. He would be going against the major flow of traffic travelling from Cary to Wake Forest on I540. If you're in central or south Cary, then the situation is likely to be a whole lot different, and he could be greatly impacted by rush hour traffic, and the commute could easily be more than 40 minutes.
As for other areas, North Hills is a good suggestion. North Raleigh is also somewhere to take a look at. It's a very large area and is not drastically different from the look and feel of Cary. It will take some time to do an exhaustive exploration though, so I'd advise you to not cut your time too short.
I wouldn't necessarily base your decision on where the Brits and Brit get-togethers are. Yes it's a convenient way to meet people initially, but as time goes on there's no guarantee you will keep attending or even seeing those people.

Why do you have to live around other British people? Since you're not really interested in getting to know Americans, wouldn't it make more sense just to move back to the UK?
North Hills area is in my opinion crowded and over priced.
And getting more overcrowded each time the city approves more development.
