What you want to do is head south from the Tanger Outlet on Mebane Oaks Rd. At 54 it becomes Saxapawhaw Bethlehem Church Rd. that takes you into Saxapawhaw. There you can eat great food at Sax General Store, drink amazing beer at Haw River Brewery, buy locally raised meat from the best butcher in the area (Left Bank Butchery), and take a hike along the Haw River. Make sure to peek in the Haw River Ballroom where there is also a coffee shop in case you prefer coffee. Saxapawhaw is one of the best (somewhat) hidden gems of the area.

Definitely not Greensboro or the food court at the outlets lol . We'll check out Saxapahaw.
Thanks!

You can take 54 on to Carrboro and Chapel Hill and then back to 40 if you want to go back that way, or you can pick up 87 in Saxapahaw (cross the river and just stay on the road until you run into 87) and 87 will take you to Pittsboro if you'd like to go that way and pick up 64 there.

Wasn't won over by the Blue Ribbon. It was fine, but I'd take the Sax Gen Store or the Eddy over it any day.

I'm also not a fan of Blue Ribbon diner. If you don't want to head into Saxapahaw downtown Mebane has small town charm and a couple restaurants. The best one is probably the Downtown Table. There is also a wine bar or a martini place. I haven't been yet but there is also a steakhouse that opened recently.

Do Allen & Son Barbecue, just 1.5 miles north of I-40 Exit 266 on the left at the Millhouse Road exit. Down-home goodness!
