I painted my office Agreeable Gray, and was ready to hate it. I love the walls, because I have large photos on the wall, and they pop!
I see color photos, and hardly see the walls. The gray becomes a background to color.
I would have to agree with this. Even up here in "gray" Ohio we didn't even put our house on the market, just showed it to 4 families one afternoon a couple weeks ago and had a bidding war, and one was all cash- seriously scratching my head how people can pay all cash at this price range. And our house is all shades of gray (well not 50). But...we do have big white trim everywhere and board and batten. I think it also depends on your floor plan. Our first floor is pretty open (we turned a 50's ranch into a big white farmhouse 2 story).
Lots of gray going into our new Chapel Hill house too
And to whomever sent me the "hate grey" comment- to each his own. OP was asking about paint colors and selling her house and I responded what worked for me. Have a great weekend.
I posted earlier about grey walls looking like a cloudy day imo. That said, I have seen houses with grey walls with white trim that looked beautiful and elegant. It's the trend right now. The outside of a house looks good with grey paint in the right setting. I just don't like it for myself as it would get to be too much after a short while. I wouldn't be willing to re-paint as quickly as I would want to.
I must say that anything is better that that "brown paper bag" color I see on some houses and businesses.

I hope you didn't think I was referring to you in the comment above. Someone sent the comment to me directly. Just didn't see why that was necessary.
I agree that gray can be like a cloudy day and don't get me wrong, I LOVE color. I was just agreeing that it can be a great backdrop to art on the walls and as a photographer I have tons of big canvases of my family and dogs and places that we love all over.
Also in agreement that it is a trend and will change like everything else. But yes- gray is way better than "brown paper bag".
Imagine if the internet and C-D were a thing in the 1970's.....everyone would be on here saying "DARK WOOD PANELING ON THE WALLS....ORANGE, YELLOW, OR GREEN SHAG CARPET EVERYWHERE...COVER UP THOSE ORIGINAL HARDWOODS. YELLOW OR AVOCADO APPLIANCES AND FORMICA COUNTERTOPS IN THE KITCHEN. THAT'S THE ONLY WAY TO GET YOUR HOUSE TO SELL".

haha
I was thinking the same thing, and in due time we'll come back to bright colors being the norm and everything else being "old fashioned" and "outdated".
