Buy yourself a $10 gallon jug of Ortho at The Home Depot. It claims to work one full year and you can apply it inside and out. It's probably the same stuff the services use.
We used the Ortho (and other such products) in our house in Florida and we didn't nearly get the bugs like this stuff gets from Kil-mor. Also, absolutely does not last a year. See an effect for a few weeks and then it's gone.
While I was cynical about the use of a pest control company for a long time, I am not now. Also, we had a very smart mouse in the garage who would bypass all of our traps including the cheese but our contract with the pest control covered this and he was gone in a week. It's also nice to know if I see spiders or ants in the house that aren't dead I can just call them.
sevin dust inside and outside the foundation....no more bugs. If you want a pest control company though Custom Termite and Pest and Swift Creek are both outstanding.
Someone from work just told me about Cleggs termite and pest control. He said it was around $50 quarterly and they will come out any time in between the quarterly visits. I'm moving into a house next week and will be calling them up right away.

We moved here in December and signed up with Cleggs and they have been excellent. Zero bugs. However my understanding with any company it depends on who you get as a technician and how complete they are.
I went to a website where I could buy my own 'professional' grade bug killer/insecticide (what the pros use). I purchased "Bifen IT" in the 1 qt size. It will make up to 95 gallons of insecticide and it kills most bugs (up to 75 different bug species). It's safe if you have pets, as long as you allow the areas sprayed to dry. I use it inside and outside.
In my attic areas I did a dry dust with "Delta Dust" (again purchased from the web). I did a couple applications 2 summers ago and it's still working!
I think I spent maybe $80 total and that was 2 years ago and I have enough bug killing insecticide to last another 2+ years (possibly longer). And I was MUCH more thorough than any of the pest control companies...I used one of the companies and and I swear they just sprayed a little bit inside and out and it didn't really do the trick. *I* spray liberally onto the side of my house outside and on the ground below, extending about 2 to 3 ft out around the perimeter and then do touch-ups around all my doors and doorframes a few times during the summer, esp. after a lot of rain. Inside the house I do the baseboards, around the doorframes and cracks. Takes all of 10 min inside and maybe 15 min outside. I have a 2-gallon sprayer that I bought for like $9.99.
It works beautifully, at a fraction of the cost of any pest control company, and I am more thorough than any of these so-called 'pros.'
