I currently live in Northeast Raleigh and we have a great place where we take our dogs every day to walk without leashes(Horseshoe Farm Park). We are in the process of looking for a new home and have targeted the Holly Springs/FV areas. I know that there is a lot of undeveloped land out that way(especially in FV). I am just wondering if anyone can share some good locations to be able to take our dogs to without a leash. If I found a good spot, that would go a long ways towards determining where we eventually decide to buy a house.
Nothing available in FV. As a matter of fact, when I asked the "Dog Safety Committee" (a committee borne of the attempt to pass an ordinance that FV was going to put a cap on dog ownership) if we could start working on a dog park, one member's response was that "FV does not have the temperment for an off leash dog park." Maybe you should target a more forward-thinking area.
Although dogs are supposed to be leashed in the city of Raleigh I've seen lots of folks take the Greenway trails off Sawmill with unleashed dogs. The main trail off Sawmill is pretty wooded and not used terribly often so it's not a bad choice.
If you're interested in just bringing them to a dog park, I'd go to Oakwood in Raleigh. That place is gorgeous, is entirely shaded and last time I was there had a couple of dog pools. It's near the cemetery in the Oakwood residential section of Raleigh.
