I spoke with the people at the Sam's Club in Cary. They said their store was closing and moving to Shiloh Crossing mid March.I'm going back tonight, so I'll get more details.
The link to www.richardscommercial.com says the scheduled opening date for Sams and Walmart is April 2009... it doesn't appear to me that there is much of anything going on at the Walmart location- having worked for Harris Teeter during the construction and opening of a Durham store, I'd think that it would be a beehive of activity just before opening. But everytime I drive by there, nothing seems to be going on. It's hard to tell what activity is going on at Sams due to the location behind the Walmart- you just can't see what's going on as easily. You'd think if they were about to open anytime soon, there would be people there setting displays or inventory. It seems a ghost town most days. I am like may folks in Morrisville... getting frustrated that it looks done but isn't open!! Are they waiting for the road improvements to complete before opening? I would think that they would want the roads finished before trying to open... can you imagine a Grand Opening with 54 in it's current state!?! I guess we will know when they decide to let us know!
Apparently Walmart is paying for the road improvements to 54 there as a condition for Morrisville giving them their permit, so maybe they can't open until they are complete. What is weird is that they basically finished the stores before they really even started on the road improvements, and then they seemed to almost finish a new intersection and redid the church street intersection, only to then bulldoze half of it up and widen the road few feet.
The only reasons I'm glad they put a SAM's and WALMART there are...
1. More lanes on 54
2. Randy's Pizza added Saturday hours because of the new store plans!
