State employees are eligible for a free "Go Pass" which means free rides on the CAT and TTA bus system.

Take the Bus!

For all of you that telecommute, what type of work do you do? Just curious.

That makes a lot of sense.

Roads should not be built encouraging long commutes.
Wow...and I thought I was idealistic. That's actually a pretty poor comment and shows how out of touch politicians really are now. This is an impossible task currently due to the sprawl, greed of developers, and the keeping up with the joneses malady. Moreover, would you expect people to move, even in-town, each time they change jobs...or even worse, when the person's employer chooses to move across town for whatever reason...such as cheaper rent to boost profits? I think not.

So for the brainstorming; break it down simply...less miles traveled or better mileage per gallon. All ideas have to reflect these two points.

So here is one; lower the emission rating requirements to the rate of our European friends so we can get better mpg until a new fuel is made available--natural gas or electric / solar for instance--not corn.

Time is money and a source of happiness; so until we do away with money, the value and LOGISTICS just isn't there for enough people...

The only value add here is for the environment potentially...not the pocket book.

If Mayor Meeker was to pay the loss on selling my home right now and convince the builders in RTP/Jordan Lake area to lower prices I would do it

While I am fan of living close to work too, I have my doubts as to whether the Mayor actually said that. I would love to see a source for that quote.

LOL, I was about to say the same thing. Nothing to help me here, although I don't expect free handouts. I conserve gas by driving the speed limit (when people go around me like I'm moving in slow motion) and I drive my wife's car to work since it gets better gas miliage and my commute is 2 x's as far. I estimate we save at least 1 tank full of gas a month now.

I so would do this, but it would take me about 2 hours and multiple bus transfers to get to my job that only takes me 25 minutes to drive to in the morning. I don't have an extra 3 hours a day to waste. If I could take a bus that stoped near my house and got me to work in a reasonable amount of time I would do it.

I've got to expect that the price of gas has been tough on real estate agents, given all the driving that's part and parcel of the job. Plus, because you need to be able to fit clients into your car agents can't exactly be toodling around in Honda Fits.

I couldn't agree with you more. Mayor Meeker assumes that all of us can afford the housing that is close to our work. Even if we can, is the neighborhood a safe one?

Instead of him suggesting we all need to move, how about he steps up and starts working on a better public transportation system?

Ok, back to the subject at at hand, I'm grateful to work for the employer that I do. They are encouraging us to work from home at least one day a week, and more if possible. In addition, they've setup a forum for us all to post in and find other workers in our area to carpool with.
