Are there any or very many outdoor markets where you can buy fruits n veggies and flowers in the Raleigh area? I keep reading on different posts about one in Cary but I tried looking it up and I only get listings for flea markets and thats not what Im talking about. Does anyone know the ones I mean? Theyre usually open from 8am-1pm a certain day of the week, they only sell fruit, veggies, flowers, and fresh herbs, sometimes fresh baked breads. (Ok now Im hungry)

In Raleigh there is the state Farmer's market which is open all the time and Cary has a farmer's market on Tuesday and Saturday downtown by the train station. The local produce stand in Cary closed about a week ago for the season.

Dh and I went to the Flea Market at the State Fairgrounds for the first time today. There were a couple of great produce stands and we stocked up. Made fresh tomato and cucumber salad tonight - it was yummy and oh so fresh.

Raleigh Farmer's Market is fantastic. I live fairly close to the one in Cary and it is disappointingly tiny. In fact I went to one strawberry vendor and ALL his pints and quarts of strawberries were pre-promised to other customers so he had none to sell even though there were about 20 sitting there. Plus the prices were higher at the Cary stand than what I found at the Raleigh State Farmer's Market.

Here's a link for the Cary Farmer's Market:

Downtown Cary Farmer's Market

It is small, but it is all local. There is a guy who does his CSA deliveries there, and that's probably what LottaMoxie encountered. I can understand why he only does a CSA there, as that guarantees his sales (and if you are thinking "what's a CSA?" it stands for "Community Supported Agriculture" and is basically buying a portion of a farmer's crop for the whole season).

We also like going to the Durham Farmer's Market, which is all grown within 50 miles and has a lot of organic/pesticide free. Durham Farmers Market

During strawberry season I go and pick my own at the local farms, while they are available. At $1.50/lb it's much more reasonable and I eat a LOT of strawberries.
