My husband and I are still about 4 years out from retiring to "somewhere in North Carolina." We have just about settled on the Raleigh area as we don't have any issues with schools and both of us will probably work in some capacity once we get settled. We have been to Raleigh and it really had just about everything we are looking for such as a healthly economy, shopping, theater, good restaurants, medical care and a variety of housing options (plus good climate). But at this point we have no idea of what are considered the more desireable parts of town for owning a single-family home. Is there someone on this forum who can suggest in which areas we ought to concentrate our search. I know four years sounds like a long time but we want to do as much preliminary research as is possible - we are making another trip to the area in October.
Something else we would like some advice on is neighborhoods and builders. We will want a single story new(er) home and I have my heart set on a wide front porch. We are coming from Houston, Texas and the traffic here is a nightmare so I would like some advice about commuting issues. Can anyone help?
Thanks so much (and we can hardly wait to get there...).
