I've had Blue Advantage for 2 years now. Started at $130 per month, then up to $160, and I got a letter today that it's up to $199. What's more annoying is that I input my gym and workout activities and show how my weight hasn't changed in 2 years - all of this is supposed to get me a discount. I even wrote them a letter a month ago reminding them of the fact that I have not been to the doc in over a year, etc... and still an increase.

Any other suggestions on who to get a quote from? It's coverage just for me.

Unfortunately health insurance companies raise their rates every year. It has nothing to do with you personally. I do think that Blue Cross Blue Shield is the best price you will get for the benefit.

I had BCBS two years ago and it cost $205 then they wanted to raise it to $230 and it was already too expensive so I didn't renew it. So for the past 2 years I haven't had insurance because it was too expensive and recently got a quote for almost $300. By the way I am healthy I think it's b/c I am a 28 year old female and they jack it up b/c I could get pregnant! Anyways, I cannot afford it and could end up like the millions of other American's who file for bankruptcy for medical debt.

I would suggest to shop EVERYONE you can find. My insurance was just raised on my birthday and a wonderful gift to me. Well, to them. No, I am healthy and do not use the insurance all that often. But, still, Blue Cross raises the insurance every year, and this time they raised it by 33%. And, yes, it's gonna get so expensive that I'll need to drop it myself at this rate. But, then again, I'll just move back to CA and figure out how to get MediCal. Eh.

You know, I was surprised this year. After 12 to 14 percent increases every year previous, my BCBS HSA plan (5K deductible) is only going up SEVENTEEN CENTS this year!! I now pay $121-something a month. I'm a middle-aged female in the "premium" tier (about 14% off their regular rate). That tier is decided upon when you sign up--so Grawburg, I'm hoping that's what they assigned you to initially. I'm not sure you can change it later. Also, I don't think that participating in the "blue points" gift program makes a difference to your rates...although I do enjoy the free fleece blanket I got from it!

Try Continental General, had that B4 Humana One. Me & 9yo for ~$130 Major Medical, I pay everything (at a discount) up to $5k. Don't seek an agent to help you through this as they will steer you to their preferred carrier, they the rates increase more each anniversary (Cont.Gen increased 40% & were unable to unhook 'my' agent).

IMO you need Major medical at least as just one Hospital visit will offset >2yrs of premiums. OTOH (& I'm no expert) bankrupcy credit issues clear off your record after a specific # of years -think it's 5.

I don't see an issue with switching Insurance companies. They say a new policy will cost more if you have a history of switching, found not to be true as the new company is eager to get your business.
