I would check Bahama and Rougemont. It's still close enough to things in Durham and you can get to North Raleigh in less than 45 minutes. It's a beautiful area and I love it out there. The schools out there are great. I know first hand since I attended 2nd grade through high school in that school district. They are also building a new middle school so you can check the districting on and it as it would be the closest to Bahama and Rougemont. Also check into Orange and Alamance Counties on the outskirts of Hillsborough and Mebane. St. Mary's Rd. and Pleasant Green Rd. in Hillsborough near Durham County would be my first choice to build a house on a nice size lot (I may be bias since I grew up near there). But it is a bit pricey out there. It's the prettiest and most convenient to town in my opinion. Your money would stretch the furthest in Alamance around Mebane and you're a bit closer to the west to see family. It’s also a good halfway mark to enjoy the Triangle and Triad.

Redistricting due to growth is very different than the redistricting that Wake does. But I do not think it's wise to think you can move to Johnston Co, Durham Co, Hillsborough, etc to avoid all redistricting. I think it depends on where you pick and how many more years of school your children have. I highly doubt my Kindergartener here in Durham will get through school without any redistricting.
