I remember when North Ridge was considered huge. I think it was probably the largest subdivision in Raleigh for many years. In fact, it took years and years to build out because it was developed as a collection of individually sold lots and builders instead of the more mass produced subdivisions of today that have a limited number of larger regional or national builders.

Isn't the new neighborhood in Holly Springs going to be quite large? I'm talking about 12 Oaks.

Wendell Falls will have about 4000 homes (including mixed use retail, office) when completed. Infrastructure has been completed and not sure if they broke ground on the residental yet.

I think this economy nationally will kill 12 oaks. It might be 20 years before they sell out. In addition that Sheraon Harris Plants cooling tower seen from the main street could I say COULD be a problem.

Default Olde Towne, SE Raleigh

is dead I hear. This was going to be a giant 2,400 unit development. They worked for years on it, but just couldn't get it out of the ground before the economy cratered.

Does Woodcroft in Durham still rank? When it was built, it was the largest in the US I believe.

Treyburn in northern Durham is pretty big in terms of area, but not so much in terms of population.

When I lived in Falls River, I sometimes went on "short" bike rides of 18 miles by doing a couple of loops around Falls River & Bedford together. Its pretty crazy to consider the size of those "neighborhoods" now that I live in one w/ less than 50 homes. The population of Bedford & Falls River together is more than many small towns...add on Wakefield across the river and its downright mind-boggling. Too bad the developers didn't do more to develop the surrounding infrastructure to support those populations.

When Brentwood was first built, it was considered huge -- about 1300 homes. I was surprised to find many small towns in North Carolina with far fewer residents than Brentwood.
