I would have to say Magnolia Grill in Durham also along with the other two posts. Durham and Chapel Hill do have the better upscale restaurants.

For a quick bite that doesn't taste quick, try Alimentari Deli in Plantation Square. Besides authentic imported sandwich fixings and homemade breads to put them on, they have wonderful prepared foods to heat and eat.

Oh and don't forget dessert - CANNOLI!!!

I love the Irregardless Cafe in downtown Raleigh. Its a real eclectic mix of food & people, the menu changes daily and its ALWAYS great. Lots of vegitarian dishes if you are into that. Great deserts...just ask and they will tell you whats best that day. Been there a long time...like 30 yrs I've heard.

I tried a great Indian restaurant called Saffron in Raleigh during my last visit.

Are there any really good Thai restaurants that any one can recommend?

There are so many great restaurants in the area! And many dining guides to help you find them. My favorite is Raleighs Best Dining. Local Restaurants in Raleighs Best Dining, NC that seems to cover more and more of the whole Triangle too. Perhaps it should be called TrianglesBestDining?
Many of the restaurants mentioned above are in it and some have coupons for dining discounts.
You should try:
Underground, the N&O critic raved about it.

42nd Street Oyster Bar which is fab. try the crab cakes!

one of my favs Zely & Ritz which has great wines and uses organic veg.

You will never run out of great choices around here.

I like Crook's Corner in Chapel Hill. Their shrimp and grits are to die for.
