Lake Tillery and Badin Lake are both very nice lakes about an hour from Charlotte.

Default interest in slalom course at Jordan Lake

I am very interested in trying to establish a ski club at Jordan lake. I would love to know of anyone interested in joining a ski club at Jordan. I am putting together a proposal and would love to be granted use of one of the private coves (two possible sites) to set up a ski course. ANyone interested reply here, or email me directly at jimruthnc at gmail dot com.

The photo was shot at Bunn Lake, which is on the Wake County/Granville County line, at the junction of US 64 and NC 39.

It is small, but one of the few around where you can have a boathouse.

We have skied, jet skied, fished, and camped at Lake Gaston, Falls Lake, and Jordan Lake. Those are right outside of Raleigh and/or a short hour+ drive (gaston). This area is clay and you get mud. We found it to be a non-issue when doing all of the above. The swiming areas are sand.

Did you find Lake Magnolia - just outside of Raleigh? Perfect water ski conditions with ski course and jump right in your backyard.

I grew up skiing on Kerr Lake. Falls is narrow, busy and too many stumps for me to enjoy..
Feels like a highway and if you fall you need to worry about someone coming up right behind you,

Kerr Lake is muddy but it has lots of quite coves that you can have all to yourself. The water is as smooth as glass in the morning & in the evening...Also I think you can live on the lake at Kerr..Towns nearby are rough though..Henderson is high crime.

I would look into Lake James near Morganton. Beautiful...

I would hope that the OP has, in the 3+ years since he first asked the question, found a suitable place to waterski.

Still interesting to read, though, about the qualities of the different lakes. If I read it in 2009, I've since forgotten.

And there's absolutely no problem reviving old threads, but before people spend time and effort making recommendations, I think it's fair to advise them that the OP isn't actively seeking information any more and, in fact, hasn't even visited the forum in more than four years.
