I know that everyone has different job prospects according to their credentials, skill set, experience, industry...

I realize it is a gerneral question but I am still going to ask it.

Where are all the Jobs? Was this area overhyped in the national media or has the recession hit the triangle in a big way?

As you said, depends in your industry and expectations.

I know people struggling to find a job and I know a few that found them quickly. Tech and admin seems to be tough to find at the moment.

I've been out of work for 2 months. I've only been able to get 2 interviews in that time. I'm in the tech field (SW engineer). I'm hoping that it is more of a time-of-the-year thing than an economy thing, but I would be kidding myself

the end of the year right in the middle of a recession with a new administration taking over in a month and a half is not the best time to look for a job. i'd think by spring things would be better, if theyre going to be

Default Times are lean

Warning: There are no available worthwhile jobs that pay a living wage in the Triangle right now and there probably won’t be for the next year or so. In fact many companies are planning to lay off employees so my advice is to move along as there’s nothing to see here.

Right. And the above-quoted is the Triangle equivalent of what folks say in Seattle: "Don't even THINK of moving here because it's pouring rain every day. Really. No, really."

Still, if you don't have a job lined up, I wouldn't move ANYWHERE right now.

I just moved here a month and a half ago. I just found a job last week on the IT Infrastructure side. It's scary, but it can be done. You have to hook up with the right people

Oh no! There is certainly things to see here. All of our North Carolina pine trees. And especially at this time of the year they light up and some even twinkle! Which reminds me of:

Twinkle, Twinkle little triangle jobs
how I wonder where thy are.
Up above the rest of the US economy so high,
little to no an IT, Consultant, or State job to find.
How I wonder where your jobs are!

Painting a broad brush with stating "jobs" does not work in these types of dicussions. It depends on what type of job you are looking for. If it something to actually pay the bills, with benefits offering a career type setting, then helll no, there is nothing. If you're a college kid looking for a part-time job while going to school to have some pocket money, then you will probably be fine.

Again, we here talks of 20% statewide spending haircuts, so even jobs like teaching, police, city are drying up as we speak here.

I got laid off last week along with 17 other people. Thought my job was secure guess not. Glad I found this forum, been reading some interesting things.
I applied to over 6 retail stores just to try to get something. One manger told me they had over 500 applications last week in one week alone. No call backs
This is getting scary
