We are fairly new to the Morrisville/southern Durham area and I'm interested in Waldorf-Inspired or similar natural learning type home preschools/nurseries. Has anyone ever had an experience or could you recommend one?? THANKS!
I know of one in Durham called Morning Glory Preschool. From an email I received about it:
Morning Glory Preschool offers the young child a gentle first step
away from home into a structured social setting. Although we draw from
a variety of educational theories, the primary influences of the
program are Waldorf Education and the Reggio Emilia Approach.
We offer conscious care, gentle discipline, and healthy organic
snacks. The play-based curriculum includes time for teacher-led
activities such as bread-baking, watercolor painting, and seasonal
crafts. Teacher-child ratios are kept low, and our teacher holds a
bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education.
Thanks, but we can't afford EWS, and we don't usually qualify for assistance. We're hoping to send her to EWS for grades though, because I'll be working again by then.
Hi Wednesdayo, I can Highly recommend Morning Glory Preschool!! My son went there and Loved it. Zoe is just amazing with the children. A wonderful natural environment. She does a lot of hands on activities, cooking, yoga and lots of outdoor time. The only reason he stopped going is because we live in Cary & she is in Durham and the commute just became too much. I'm wishing & dreaming that someone in Cary would open up a preschool as wonderful as hers. Please feel free to let me know any other questions you may have. Thanks!
YES!!! My son went to Moss Garden in Chapel Hill (very close to EWS) and I cannot say enough wonderful things about it. It was amazing, Anne Mandeville-Long, who is the nursery teacher, is AMAZING. As expected from Waldorf-inspired preschool, they are out in all weather, they do wonderful nature/seasonal projects, they bake their own bread once a week, make their own wonderfully healthy organic soups, fruit salads, etc. for the rest of the week, lots of rhythm, and peaceful times, and love.
If this is too far for you (not quite sure where you are), I would highly recommend calling her anyway and asking her about a waldorf-inspired preschool in your area. They are all very connected with one another and would be able to help you, I am certain.
