If you were a young family with kids going to school soon (and can't afford private, and you had $250k to spend on a house, which city would you choose to live in? I would be ever so thrilled if you told me why, too.

You just can't pick one over the other.
All have good points and bad. What are you looking for in a home? Where are your jobs? What sort of leisure time activities do you want to take part in?
Really....almost the entire Triangle area is nice....find the place that works for what you want.
Our work would most likely be in Raleigh. We're looking for .4 acres or more and over 2,000 square foot home.
Well....what part of Raleigh? Downtown, off towards one side of the other? Raleigh is a decent size city.
I'd hate to live in Wake Forest and have to travel to the bottom side of the beltline every day, or vice versa. Not that it couldn't be done...but I probably wouldn't pick a house in W-F on purpose then if there are other options.
If you want a lot that large, F-V would probably have more options.....North Raleigh might be hard in that price range (but not impossible) and Wake Forest should have a few. F-V, being further out, would just have more of them.
Desdemona123, I've heard from other posters that they liked North Raleigh. I'm not sure if there are different parts of N. Raleigh or if it's all over. We haven't gotten jobs yet, because we won't be moving until next year. We're coming out next month for the first time and will ask a realtor to take us around to look at houses for a day. I wanted to be able to focus on one area and look here and there at the others.

I would look at all three places if they interest you....but not get your heart set on any area until you find out where your jobs are.
This is a curious list. If F-V is on the list, why isn't a bunch of other towns also (Cary, Holly Springs, Knightdale). If the list is limited to the northern side of town, why is F-V on the list?
I like North Raleigh, but I like Wake Forest and Fuquay just fine as well. Where my job is would be a HUGE factor on where I choose to live. Are you sure you will most likely be working in Raleigh? I work in downtown Raleigh so living in N. Raleigh is fine. I would like to be closer to downtown but don't have the $$. But keep in mind there are just as many if not more people who work in RTP. While RTP is convenient to parts of N. Raleigh, Wake Forest, and Fuquay, there are many other places that are even more convenient to RTP that you may want to consider as well. Good Luck with your search!
