Where are some desirable family-friendly neighborhoods within a 30 minute commute of the Federal building on Fayetteville in Raleigh?? Looking for a great school district (kids are currently 4th and 6th graders)... Does the 30 minute commute limit us to just Raleigh or to other areas as well?
Looking for 4-5 bedrooms...2500-3500 square feet...under $375K...
You have tons of options based on your criteria. You can look in Raleigh, Cary, Apex, Garner, Holly Springs or even Fuquay Varina: all in Wake County. You can also look at Clayton in Johnston County.
Using your criteria (max price, home size, # of bedrooms) there are 798 properties in Wake County for sale that meet your criteria.
One of the very large neighborhoods with pool, sidewalks, walking trails and playgrounds is Bedford in North Raleigh. Should be about a 30 min. commute to downtown.
You could also look around Holly Springs and Cary.
You will have a lot of choices based on your price.
Apex.
Scott's Mill, Haddon Hall, Dogwood Ridge, Pearson Farms, Cameron Park, Waterford Green all offer pool communities, and easy access to US 64 or US 1, to keep you close or within 30 minutes.
Cary.
Weston Pointe.
Devereaux or Brookstone would be a stretch.
Raleigh.
You might also check out MI homes at Silverlake. Great specials on financing running right now. Some inventory. Dillard Schools right across the street.
What if I wanted to cut commute time to 20 minutes or less?
The northeast section of Fuquay-Varina. It will be your number one choice. It cannot be beat for price, beauty and location combination. It's a much shorter commute than say from Bedford in Raleigh. This section of Fuquay-Varina is actually closer to DT Raleigh than many areas in Raleigh itself. It is also much closer than Holly Springs, most of Apex and most of Cary. It is uniquely situated to have easy and quick access to DT Raleigh, yet be far enough away to be able to enjoy life. Brighton Forest may be your top choice in that area, as it is a community that has a lot of appeal, multiple custom builders and is squarely in your price range.

Reason: Added one likely neighborhood for you.
Thanks to you both....what zip code(s) would Bedford be in?
$375 looks like a bargain! We're coming from Long Island where you couldn't buy a shack for that much!
I know! You are going to be like a kid in a candy store! Although you do have a lot of choices, once you actually see the area and see the neighborhoods, you'll narrow it down pretty quickly.
