Some good friends are coming down for the weekend and want to see the "sights of raleigh". Me and the wife have only lived here and are not really sure what the sights are that need to be seen lol
People have suggested Duke Gardens in Durham, the NC Flea Market at the NC Fairgrounds, or go downtown to the 3D IMAX movie and have a nice meal in one of the many restaurants in downtown Raleigh.
I think a great way to get to see a lot of the downtown sights in Raleigh is to do one of the Triangle Segway Tours. They're based out of City Market. When my family came into town we took the 1 hour tour and had a really fun time. They also offer a longer 2 hour tour, but we were hesitant to take the longer one without ever having ridden a Segway before. I would definitely recommend that.
+1 for the Segway tour if the weather holds and they're interested in some Raleigh history (and have a minimal amount of coordination).
Otherwise it would help to know more ... Gardener? History buff? Sports fiend? Beer lover?
Or throw them in the back of the SVT and show them the back roads?
I passed the Segway idea on to the wife, but she is not very coordinated so we will see if she goes for it lol
They do like to drink out on occasion but it's not a priority.
Not sure what the friends wife is into, but my friend also has his own SVT so I am sure he doesnt want to ride in the back of mine haha but that was a good idea also!
I moved here pretty recently and did a lot of exploring when I first got here, trolled online for things to do and found an article by the NYTimes about things to do in the Triangle that was helpful. Here's some of my favorites:
-NC Farmer's Market
-Raleigh Times for food/drinking
-Father & Sons vintage shop
-Food tour (there's a southern foods one and an international foods one)
-NCMA (but it's closed now - maybe try the Nasher Art museum in Durham?)
-Artspace
-Cupcake Shoppe in Glenwood South
-Clyde Coopers bbq downtown
The NC MAster Chorale and the Carolina Ballet are performing Messiah. Incredible show. Great places to have dinner downtown before or after, then rickshaw or R-line to the show.
