So my wife and I are about ready to make a shift in our dining-out habits. We've rented in Morrisville for the last 10 months and have found a number of nice little lunch spots within 10-15 minutes of our apartment. We tend to go out for lunch every Sat and Sun.

Next month we move into our house in far south Raleigh (a few miles south of Lake Wheeler). I was noticing on a map that downtown Raleigh will be nice and close for us. I'd like to start exploring that area and going there for our weekend lunches. However, I'm concerned that perhaps many places are only open Mon-Fri for the people that work downtown.

Can anyone suggest some restaurants in the downtown area (Glenwood South, Fayetteville St, Warehouse District, Capital District, Moore Square, etc) that are open for lunch on the weekend? We are on a budget and have a 2-yr old, so I'd prefer places that are reasonably priced and "kid-friendly".

If you like barbecue, Clyde Cooper's Barbecue has been on Davie Street since 1938. It is just across from the new Progress Energy building.
It's a classic, and it will fit any budget restrictions.

The Village Draft House in Cameron Village has a varied menu with outdoor seating. I imagine the outdoor patio would be kid-friendly (it was dog friendly!). I remember the prices being reasonable as well.

There are also a few other restaurants that you might want to check out in Cameron Village. Hope you find something you like!

Mellow Mushroom Pizza (Peace and Glenwood) is a good choice.
Woody's @ City Market (205 Wolfe Street) has a kids menu
Big Ed's City Market (also Wolfe Street)
State Farmers Market Restaurant (at the State Farmer's Market)
K&W Cafeteria in Cameron Village

Let me add another stipulation to my request. I'd prefer places that do not have a waitstaff. We like to get in, eat our lunch, and then get back out so that we can enjoy the rest of the day.

Well, you will be well-served at Clyde's, and without a lot of fooling around.
Good 'cue is served quickly, and the check is right there, too.
And you seat yourselves. Or you can get a takeout at the end of the counter. Carry it over to the park and have 'cue al fresco.

I know what you mean, with too big a payroll, your afternoon disappears when the chuck wagon becomes an event all its own.
There is a McD's over by Shaw.

That's a good idea Mike. I never thought about getting lunch to-go and eating it in the park.

I haven't set foot in a McDonalds (or any other "fast food" restaurant) in years. I'll bet if I tried, my stomach would send it back.

Angelo's on Moore Square at the City Market is open on Saturdays. There is also a Chik Fil A at Fayetteville St and Davie. Not positive they are open on Saturdays but would think so.
