Hi all, can anyone give me information about the Parkwood area in Durham? The housing prices seem reasonable and it seems to be relatively close to UNC (where I will be attending grad school). Is it generally safe and well-kept? What about Parkwood Lake? I haven't been able to really find much information about it at all. Thanks in advance for your help!!
Parkwood is a decent little residential area in the southern suburban part of Durham. I-40 and NC 54 give it good access to Chapel Hill, RTP, the airport, and Raleigh. NC 55 gives you good access to downtown. So it's very well close to everything in the Triangle!
And since you're a student it is an affordable alternative to Chapel Hill which is significantly pricey. I say give it a go!
I have done a lot of research on prices in the area and I could definitely tell that buying in Chapel Hill would be out of my budget. But, what about Parkwood Lake? Is it very large, nice? I saw a property near the lake that I might be interested in purchasing. Again, thanks so much for your advice, as there is only so much one can learn from analyzing facts and figures...a human input is invaluable!!
I dunno...is there a difference between Parkwood and Parkwood Lake? Maybe you're looking at a specific subdivision, in which I don't think I could help. Us locals consider "Parkwood" as a generic term pretty much relating to all the parts of Durham City below I-40 between the RTP border and Southpoint Mall area. At which case, my earlier post applies: very nice...affordable homes...etc.
I'm guessing Parkwood Lake is a specific subdivision within the greater Parkwood part of Durham. I'm willing to guess that it is newer homes that might be a tad higher price than the rest of Parkwood maybe.
Thanks again, Rob. When I refer to Parkwood Lake, I was referring to an actual, physical body of water. I saw a home listed that staated "located on Parkwood Lake", with views of the water. So, now I figure that it must be a small, subdivision lake. From the views on the map, it had actually looked bigger. Anyway, thanks again!!
^ Yeah, you're probably right. It's very common for subdivisions on the outer fringes of cities around here to build their own lakes. Cuz I'm almost 100% certain that's not one built for water supply or as a city park.
