lovebrentwood-

i love that thread. thank you so much for putting that together!
very helpful, indeed.

everyone-

so if the northerners are yankees, what do you call californians, texans? different term for those from the deep south? i am so curious.

do people in north carolina consider themselves as southern or mid-atlantic (whatever that means)?

also-is it mostly cloudy in the fall/spring? i have found that i don't love that aspect of virginia weather.

thanks again-have to get dinner sorted out.

NATIVE North Carolinians are Southerners!! "Mid-Atlantic" generally starts around DC.

"Yankee" means someone from the Northeast, NYC area (of course), Midwest/Great Lakes areas. Californians or Pacific NW probably are not "Yankees"; they're "Californians" (etc.) a lot--A LOT--of it is attitude. "Yankees" in the derogatory sense mean those who move here and immediately (and loudly, and brashly) tell you everything that's wrong with the area because it's not exactly like it was "up North".

No, it's not generally cloudy in the spring nor fall. I think November is our "rainiest" month, but (this year being an exception) we don't have a lot of cloudy, rainy days.

I think anyone without an NC accent is considered a Yankee to native NCers; they don't know where you're from.

Falls are beautiful here. It doesn't get nasty until the first week of December. (Now.)

I was born in the South, and I'm living in the South, so I guess I'm a NATIVE SOUTHERNER.

You have my permission to call anyone who lives in the South a SOUTHERNER.

Tee-hee.

I'm not from the South, but I'm definitely not a yankee. I'm from the West Coast (OR, CA).

From City-data's Raleigh page:

You can't predict anything from the precipitation averages, though. There is a wide range. For example, one June we had about 0.75 in. The next June, almost 8 inches. There is no rainy season/dry season here like in California.

One difference between December rain and June rain, though, is that with the shorter days, colder temperatures, and dormant plants, December rain leaves the ground wet for a much longer time! If it rains again before the mud dries up, it seems like it's raining all the time.

I currently live 150 miles west of the Triangle, but the weather here is almost the same.
