mix sodium chloride (crushed rock salt) and sand, spread evenly and you're good to go!

I always believed that all that salt would damage the grass or burn it so I just shovel it off. No big deal.

If we just have snow and no ice, then driving on the snow and packing it down with the weight of your car is the surest way to turn it into ice. Either way, go get a big bag of rock salt (it works way better than any other de-icing chemical pellets) to make sure you can thaw the ice.
We won't have to get into when the temperature is too cold for salt to work... That won't be an issue here, but my fellow former northerners know what I'm talking about.

^that we do. i just assumed it would melt here without needing to do anything to it anyways, but i guess if we do get several inches and a few cold days it would suck.
