I usually plan to arrive at RDU about an hour before my flight and always make it through security in plenty of time. Has anyone flown out recently? With the heightened security in place since Christmas, I'm wondering how much additional time I should allow for my flight on Friday morning. I don't want to miss my plane, and I also don't want to be sitting at the gate for two hours because I got there too early!
I've flown out of RDU several times in the past year and never had to wait in security lines. I can be from my place in Brier Creek to my flight's gate in 20 minutes if I'm getting dropped off. Very convenient.
Thanks everyone for the input! RDU is usually quite easy to fly out of, so I just wanted to see if anything had changed. I may have the cab pick me up 15-20 minutes earlier just to be safe. I should post the same question in the NY forum on behalf of my sister - she's flying out of White Plains, and we are meeting up in Atlanta (and then we are off to sunny & warm Cancun for MLK weekend!).
Flew Jan 1st @ 10:50 am. I got there 2 hours early. Security was still short and sweet, spent about 45 minutes at the gate waiting before the flight left. I hear you can get through security faster if you don't wear any undies.
Same here... fly out of RDU at least once a week been a couple of times this year already and it is the same as ever. I travel a lot and RDU is so easy to get through. I always aim to be at the airport 35 minutes prior to departure time, check-in online in advance (note if you don't check in online in advance you will wont be able to check in less than 30 mins from departure time at the airport). 35 minutes is plenty to park and get to your gate. I'd add 10-15 minutes if using park/ride or if you want time to get coffee, newspaper etc
Anyway, no delay due to security
