This is my first post and I've read many of the threads. My question is....is the Raleigh area a good place to retire? Things to do for active 55+? thanks.

I think it is.
That's my plan, anyway.

In the Triangle we have:
Affordability.

Easy to get around and many good locations to minimize that getting around.

Accessibility to the beach, mountains, the entire East Coast, and a pretty good airport that isn't too hard to maneuver.

World class medical facilities.

Many options for activity regardless of age group.
We are starting to see more 55+ communities, if that is what you desire.

It isn't Chicago or New York, but the only reason to be bored is if you decide you want to be bored.

Thanks Mikejaqish...I take it you're a realtor? I'm visiting the area June 16-22 to scout it out. What services do you provide?

Hope that is all right.

Default commercial property

I'll be in the area June 16-22 for 2 reasons: first is to check out the area in general. Secondly, if we relocate there...my wife and I will be looking for a commercial property, ie. multi-unit, Inn, B&B, or even a building to rehab into a similar use. Thanks.

That all sounds plausible. Looking forward to it.

Default what I did

My wife and I went to Cary on 5/18/07 for the first time to look around [had done research, including looking over this web site for a few months on a daily basis] and bought a place at The Carolina Preserve within hours of getting there. Have heard only good things about their projects elsewhere and we want to be there next year at this time and that is their time -line. I am a NY dentist so you know this isn't an ad.

We are from Long Island and my husband and I visited Carolina Preserve recently and were very impressed. We are interested in moving there in about 2 years. Congratulations on your upcoming move. The hardest thing is leaving family and friends. Do you know people in North Carolina or will the area be totally new to you.

Default family & friends

We have a neice and her husband that live in the area but other than that we don't know anyone else. We want to join an active, alive church to get to know people. Our plan is to move there once we can sell our house. The housing market here in Ohio is flat to say the least.
