A neat little pie shop is slated to open in the location formely occupied by Conti's Italian Market on Person Street in Downtown Raleigh. This is the area located just up the street from the Krispy Kreme. I really looking forward to picking up a pie once it opens! Not sure how I will decide which one to buy first! You can read more about Pie Bird here (http://piebirdraleigh.com/Site/Welcome.html - broken link).

Great concept. I guess their pies are so expensive ($14) because they plan to deliver. I wish they had a better selection of fruit pies, but it's interesting that they offer quiches. I don't know that I'd pay that much for a pie. It would have to be pretty good, and I've had some pretty good pies. I like to eat a lot of pie, and at $14, it would be hard to justify being a frequent customer. I might order one or two if I were having a dinner party.

The bird in the logo looks rather bizarre. Are those supposed to be tail feathers at the back? I got a very different impression when I looked at it.

It's a 60's looking logo to me. Makes me think of the Partridge Family, although I guess that was 70's.

Looks cute but I wish it had more of an option to get just a slice. It looks like there are only two kinds you can buy by the slice. I'd love it to be another "Cupcake Shoppe" experience where you go with a few friends, enjoy a slice of pie, and move on to the next event. I don't see myself purchasing a whole pie because I would eat the entire thing by myself! I also don't think I'd purchase any of the savory pies.I hope they do well nonetheless.

I wish the pie people well but also wish they were in business WITH Conti's instead of in their old space.

Yummm. An interesting concept but I can't buy a whole pie anymore either or I would eat it all! Maybe good if you were having guests. Anybody been around long enough to remember Poole's Pie Shop in the mid-late 70's? Seems like it was on Peace Street or on a corner at Peace & another street. When I was in college we'd go there and buy day-old pies for real cheap.

I sure have missed pie places like Marie Calendar's and Polly's Pie's in Southern CA!

I am excited about the pie place and actually love the bird- not that that will make the pies better!

I really don't want to have to buy an entire pie. I'm not really a pie person but do like to get slices every now and then. I think they're missing an opportunity here and are shooting themselves in the foot business wise. If your pie is really that great that you can charge $14 for it, let me buy a slice for $2. So in theory if you sell by the slice and sell an entire pies worth of slices you'll actually profit an extra $2 if you slice it 8 ways. I'd pay $2 for a good pie slice, heck even $3. That'd give you a profit of $10 on a $14 pie sliced 8 ways.

Potential business fail.

I don't know what their plans are for sure. Who knows, maybe they will actually end up selling some pies by the slice in the store as well. It has opened yet, but I plan to stop by when they do. The good thing is that if they decide to sell by the slice after the fact it shouldn't be that hard to make that addition to the busines plan. I'll let you know what I find out once they open.
