I've wondered about this for a while and thought I'd just go ahead and ask. Why do realtors feel the need to put a photo of themselves on business cards, sides of vehicles, for sale signs? Is there any other profession that does this? What significance does it have what a person looks like as far as being able to sell a house?
It is a tradition. There is a part of the tradition that has to do with agents selling themselves and their image as their business.
There is part of the tradition that has to do with safety and identification. When an agent shows up at an occupied home for sale, knocks on a neighborhood door, or meets a new client, their card helps verify with their face, that they are in fact a real estate agent, not just a thief casing the place or trying to lure people into vacant properties.

Wrong questions.
Let me help you out with a more cogent question:
Q: "Do people you don't know ever recognize and greet you because they have seen your photo?"
A: "Yes."
I've yet to have my face on my business card, 10 years into this. I guess I figure it's one less "thing" to maintain, as I age. Of course, my website photo needs to be updated, since I'm a lot more gray than I was in '07 when that was taken. But, then again, doesn't everyone already know "Boyd, Eric Boyd"?
Have you ever pulled a business card out of your wallet/purse and thought "now who the heck is that?" Maybe if the card had a picture you might say "oh yeah, that's the really nice agent I met at the open house on Portsmouth last week."
May be it make someone more popular in the area he/she deal in. Every business has its own marketing tactics, have to follow to get more exposure.
