We're in Durham County, but the County really did a good job helping us through the mess and they're still a part of the solution today.
So I'm hoping you get good advice from the Wake County folks. They should be able to locate your "reserve" drain field (if you have one). It is true that without a properly functioning septic field the County can condemn your property, but I've found that they really try to help first.
Another option (albeit probably expense) is to try and connect to an existing private treatment facility that might be nearby. That was what worked for us.
