Yes, I do indeed have experience with mosquitoes.

When they bite, it begins to itch.

This has also been my experience.

No doubt, I bought a house once near a lake and not only was it just mosquitoes, but the all around bug infestation was crazy.

Marshes will also have wildlife other than mosquitoes. Smaller mammals (raccoons for example) will live there as will, probably, various snakes. If the wetland gets a bit deeper (3 ft. or so as in a beaver impoundment) the mosquitoes won't be as much of a problem.

le roi has a high reputation score, must be that sharp wit that endears him to so many. haha

Not all wetlands are alike. If the water is shallow and still it can stagnate, making it unpleasant for various reasons, mosquitos, smell, ugly swamp monsters, etc. If the water is in motion (flowing slowly) it keeps the mosquitos down. Not all wetlands are year around. Healthy wetlands can be amazing places to live on the banks of, ceaseless life in motion to watch. They are home to many beneficial insects, butterflies, birds and more. Ask your potential neighbours and local native plant or naturalist organizations about the pros and cons of the particular wetlands you have in mind.

Beware of mold, too. If a person doesn't like mold, then I have to assume living near wetlands isn't a good idea. Especially in the southern parts of the U.S. where there is a lot of humidity.

FEMA Map Service Center -

Check this site out Moonsky. If you are pondering a purchase near wetlands, it may be worth the time to see if the property is located in a flood zone. If you need help using it, I will help; just ask. If you are already familiar with the site, mapping system, and the meaning of flood zones, please disregard.

Have a good one!

I have flood zone and wetlands on my property and the adjoining property and I live in the Florida where the humidity is higher than average for the U.S. and have never had mold problems.

Water leaks in the house, condensation from setting the AC too low, etc are much greater cause of mold than living near wetlands or flood zones .

Interesting. I live in Louisiana and within close proximity to a river. I have to keep the house up and yard up, on account of mold may spread, if not careful.
