A must read for potential sellers looking for improved conditions over the next 6-12 months.
Is the media finally starting to call BS on the NAR?
Realtors Cut Forecast, Say Slump Will Extend to 2008 (Update4)
By Kathleen M. Howley
Sept. 11 (Bloomberg) -- The National Association of Realtors reduced its home sales forecast for the ninth time this year and said the housing slump will extend into 2008.
Well, aren't you just full of sunshine, mr. coupon : )
Shelly
Usually Mr. Yun (NAR spokesman) is full of sunshine no matter what the conditions, but you know its a difficult market when even he can't find any good news for the future.
Lawrence Yun and the NAR are a prime example of 'PollyAnna." I knew while reading the other 90 reports sent out this year (Yes, I'm exaggerating) by NAR that they were looking on the bright side while ignoring the truth.
Oh, and I expect them to revise the forecast at least once more this year. Maybe twice. The NAR, in my humble opinion, is useless, unless you are talking about protecting price fixing in many markets, and keeping banks out of the real estate industry.
Coming from a Realtor, I should be ashamed to say these things.

Yes, don't you know you're supposed to tow the party line??!!
I don't think the NAR is doing its members any favors by artificially painting a rosy picture. Or maybe they really have no clue where the market is and where it's headed.

You had it right the first time. They paint a nice picture, hoping that they can spark a rally. Remember, as sales go down, NAR loses members. Less members, less money coming in. I think I read somewhere that membership is the lowest it's been in 6 years.

May get hate mail for this, but sometimes when working with a few other agents, I wonder how in the world they got their license. So IMHO, it is not necessarily a negative when the number of real estate agents and Realtors has dwindled. Remember, not all real estate agents are Realtors.
My personal conflict with NAR is how they spend my dues for subjects having nothing to do with the assistance in the transference of ownership of real properties.
