Maybe it's just me, when I was a kid my family came home from a vacation and couldn't find our house. It was the same shape as we left, same roof line, same windows, but when we left it was yellow and now there was a horrible avocado green colored house where our house used to be.
Just because you associate green with a childhood experience from 50 years ago doesn't mean anything to anyone except to you. Plenty of houses have been painted green since your unfortunate psychological scarring, and most of us have survived quite nicely.

It varies locally but here black roofs resell better and maintain a nicer look longer. The lighter colors tend to look worn after a while b/c they'll grow algae. (The algae does not impact life and does not hurt the roof and can be cleaned off, the black also has it just doesn't show up against the dark color.)
