My husband and I are looking at buying a house built-in 1908 the bones are pretty solid except a addition was added on in the front of the house. The front section the was added on expanded the living room out about 7' well that whole 7' section has settled and now it slopes towards the front door. It is a nice big 4 bedroom 1 1\2 bath and we are looking to buy it for 82000. Is it worth buying? Is a issue like that a big one? Expensive to fix? Just need some insight.

You need a structural engineer.

Yes, get a structural engineer's report on it.

My parents own the old family homestead and the house was built in the late 1800s. The floor in the kitchen slopes pretty noticeably but it is structurally sound.

7 feet? I'll bet they enclosed the front porch a that's a very typical depth.

Any GC can tell you what's wrong.

It could be the foundation but it could also be the floor joist and you would need someone who is experienced in this type of structural issue to figure out which it is.

Depending on the home having a basement, crawl space or slab will depend on how much work will be involved figuring out which it is.
