If it works for him, but I can't imagine living in a dog house in a living room of all places.

Peter Berkowitz bedroom pod in San Francisco - Business Insider

Quote:
As home and apartment prices in San Francisco have skyrocketed, finding an affordable place to live isn't easy.

That's why 25-year-old illustrator Peter Berkowitz decided to get a little creative with his living situation, constructing an 8-by-3.5-by-4.5 "bedroom pod" that costs about $500 a month to live in.

If you don't own a lot of stuff it's a great idea, especially if it is built so the he can break it down, and take it some where else if he needs to.
Ever live in a tent . this is better . a lot better.
People might bad mouth but I think it's a great idea.
If you look into the Japanese market they have rooms smaller then that just for sleeping regular hotels built like honeycombs.
there are several in a room.
Given the fact on has a margin of privacy in this arrangement it could accommodate quite a few people in one good sized room.
If you think about it the Dutch would put their kids to bed in cupboards much smaller in fact.
The concept would take some getting use to but not really all that bad. like sleeping in a relatively solid tent.

They interviewed Mr Berkowitz a week later, & asked him if he still liked his accommodations.

He responded: "Arf, arf!"

My aunt and uncle lived in a studio in S.F (Judah Street) when their first child was born. His bedroom was the coat closet.
It seems that things have really not changed that much in all that time for young working people starting out, this was in 1967.

In Manhattan, it's common for people to built a wall to section off part of the living room to create another bedroom. That way, 2 or even 3 people can live in a one-bedroom by turning it into a two-bedroom.

But SF has much stricter building code, if the city finds out someone put an unpermitted wall inside a home, it will fine the property owner. So the renters have to be create.

Oh, that's why he didn't just make a little room instead, I was wondering.

Ugghh...I won't say you couldn't pay me to live in the Bay Area, but you would have to pay me A LOT of money to do it.
