I bought my current house with white appliances. Of course, besides being white, everything was pretty groddy and didn't work, so I replaced them all with stainless. I don't care for white, but it wouldn't stop me from buying a place I otherwise like. Appliances are pretty easy to replace. My old house had black appliances which I rather hated. So, it's stainless for me.
Hey,
I just wanted to post a little survey here to find out some of your opinions. I have a house that I am going to be selling soon. It has white appliances (Kenmore brand countertop stove, wall oven, and dishwasher and a Whirlpool side by side fridge with ice maker and water). My question is: would you not buy this house because it has white appliances rather than stainless steel appliances? The hardware and light fixtures are oil rubbed bronze and the countertops are granite.

We prefer stainless steel, our home came without stainless so we did what people do, and replaced it. I don't think that the color combinations should be a major factor in a purchase.
Depends what the cost. But in general we wouldn't have even considered a place with anything but stainless steel and granite countertops. Just crap quality but if it was way below market value sure I could put that in myself. I just don't like fixers and I hate anything old. It's just awful looking. I want modern to ultra modern only.
I would never buy a house that had stainless steel because to me that has a sterile aura about it . It would always remind me of hospital like environment and I would not feel comfortable in a kitchen that had all stainless steel and yes stainless is hard to clean and keep clean . Nope I will take white appliances over stainless any day of the week .

FWIW, I personally cannot stand a stainless steel kitchen. They are very cold looking and remind me of a fast food joint rather than a warm, inviting home.
Regardless, the colour or style of the appliances should be the least of your worries when purchasing a home. They can be replaced rather easily if one doesn't like them. Our home came with a stainless steel stove that we used for a few years and eventually replaced with a nice white one when it finally died.
Making the decision to buy a home or not based solely on the style of the appliances is just as retarded as deciding whether or not to buy a car or not based solely on the style of the rims.
I like white. Stainless steel reminds me of various nursing homes I've worked in. They have an institutionalized feeling to me personally. I can still remember seeing the large one in a place I worked in during the 70's. It's like Pavlov's dog, see stainless steel, feel like I'm in a nursing home.
Hahaha wow you guys are weird! I've never ever heard of that before. Stainless steel appliances look sleek and modern and hold up far better. If I walk into someone's kitchen and see a bunch of crappy white appliances I assume they are poor. It looks awful!! There's a reason no luxury home would ever have anything but stainless steel and why they cost a lot more money.
