great recipe I found using crock pot and took all day but either I put too much vinegar in it or the recipe is wrong. I tried adding more brown sugar but that didn't help. Anything I can do to salvage this huge pot of baked beans. It is too bitter for anybody in the family to eat.
Ive done this before to a few dishes. I just get some store bought sauce, beans, soup, stock or whatever, add it in to increase the volume and dilute the offending ingredient. Better than throwing out the food if it can be salvaged.
1. Add brown sugar (little bit at a time)
2. Add 1/8 tsp baking soda
3. Add potato wedges (remove these after 20 or 30 min)
4. Cook longer
5. Add more beans
If those don't work then throw it out and start over.
I recently had a similar problem, so I took a look at my pantry and found a 15 oz can of yams in syrup. I threw out the syrup and pureed the yams and added them. Turned out great!
Baking soda with neutralize the acid of the vinegar. Add gradually and taste as you go. Start with one teaspoon, stir it in, wait for it to stop foaming and taste.
It might help to adjust the flavor if you add more green peppers (not knowing how much green pepper you started with, but it does blend in well with sweet and sour dishes.)
