Not sure if this has been posted already, but Ma picked up a Betty Crocker cookbook ten years ago and this recipe was in it. It's actually the only cake I like from that collection. This one came close, but I'm not really a fan of the candies so yeah.
I have a cousin who made the first cake all the time when I was a child, every gathering it would be there but she would make it into a rainbow jello cake and as I remember it was just spectacular and there was never any left. If you did not get a piece of it early, you did not get any at all.

Yum, the rainbow cake looks so appealing, I want to try some, never seen anything like it. It's cute & looks like it would take a lot of patience in making.

It's actually not that hard, just the colors give that appearance. After Step 3, everything is really easy. The packages were a little difficult to do, though, since we weren't used to having to make such "ornaments" for cakes.
This is just what I was looking for. Perfect! Thank you.
