I can't stand mayo, so no, I've not tried it.

I use margarine. I don't like the taste of butter, either. I know, I'm a picky eater.

I'll pass this grilled cheese sandwich tip along to you that I learned from an Italian woman I know.

On top of the cheese, add thinly sliced tomato and a sprinkle or two of oregano and grill as usual.

Delicious! A pizza-tasting grilled cheese sandwich!

Yes, all of the time! Hubby always has it this way. He's never cared for butter on the outside of the bread (he's a butter lover go figure) Gives it more flavor and it's not as greasy. BTW I like ketchup and tomato inside my grilled cheese, a friend told me to try it.

I use mayo instead of butter on all my grilled sandwiches.

In the past I've tried it, but my husband and I didn't care for it. We prefer ours made with butter on the outside.

Incase anyone's interested, here are two different sandwich recipes where mayonnaise is used instead of butter.

I haven't tried it, but I rather like hot, greasy grilled cheese.

If you use Cool Whip instead of mayo and on the inside instead of the outside, and Velveeta for cheese, you have my grandmother's grilled cheese.

I'm hoping she meant Miracle Whip, not Cool Whip.
