Do you happen to have a really good mince pie recipe?


I bought some mini mince pies from Walkers (the same people who make the shortbread cookies) from Scotland.

I really love their shortbread cookies. But I found the mini mince pies way too sweet for me.

Do not get me wrong, they are yummy!. But after one bite it was way too sweet. And believe me I have a sweet tooth


So, do you happen to have a really good mince pie recipe?

Do you know of a company that might make them?

Also, I thought they were supposed to have minced meat in them Did the original ones have meat?

Rum and raisin mince pies with some orange peel? There is a jar of mince pie filling, can't remember the brand name, but buy that and follow the directions. Cross and Blackwell, I think.

Yes, originally mince pies were a sweet meat pie with suet and dried fruit.

The original mince pies did have meat and suet in them, then they left out the meat and kept the suet, then they left out the suet and used vegetable fat.

Alton Brown has an excellent recipe for mincemeat pie, and you can adjust the sweetness of that recipe to your own taste.

I like the Crosse & Blackwell mincemeat filling, and it's usually readily-available this time of year.

A similar sweet treat that I order from England: Banbury Cakes

No meat in his recipe (he does use suet). Here's a British Victorian recipe for an old-fashioned mincemeat pie (with meat).

Mince pie doesn't contain meat anymore - not for a long time. Even if you were in the UK and bought a mince pie, it wouldn't include meat.

Traditional mince pies containing meat are still made in the UK. Go to Brompton Food Market or 40 Maltby Street, in London, and you can order traditional mince pies containing meats, fruits, and spices.

Awesome!! This tip cheered me up!! I am going to look for them when I visit!! YES!!!

I was saddened to think that it did not exist anymore. I have older relatives that made them when I was

growing up! They are not with us anymore...

Oh, and the first time I tasted Banbury Cakes was when I was having TEA at a friends house. They were

from Santiago, Chile in South America. The family from Chile, as well as people that I met from Buenos Aires,

Argentina, seemed to have a lot of British traditions.
